Deep in the Drives Seppelt Underground Winery Tour in Victoria
Underground wine vaults in Melbourne Explore the only underground wine vaults in the Southern Hemisphere at the Seppelt Winery in Victoria and sample up to 20 of their finest wines on this one-hour tour. The wines are stored in an underground labyrinth-like tunnel that is nearly two miles long. This underground system is referred to as "drives" and you will go deep into it to see the winery's famous collection of sparkling red wines. This tunnel was excavated in the 1800's from decomposed granite. You will also tour the historic Shaft House. The house dates back to 1865 and is where Seppelt Wine production began. The wine tasting will be conducted in the Cellar Door building, which is beautifully-nestled inside the historic Seppelt Winery. This visit to the Cellar Door will reward you with a memorable wine-tasting experience and provide you with friendly hospitality. You must be at least 18 to sample the wines.

Change Fee Policy: If changes are allowed on a tour or activity, a $20.00 per reservation change fee will be applied for any change to a reservation. Please note that some tours and activities do not allow any changes. Date changes can be made only if we can confirm availability on the new date. While we cannot guarantee any changes can be made, all change requests must be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the tour departure and must be handled on an individual basis through our Reservations Center. "The Drives" beneath the Great Western winery are the legacy of the pioneering Australian gold miners. The invention of sparkling red wine was well-received and the wines remained popular for years. However, 100 years after its invention, the sparkling red wine had fallen out of favor and all but disappeared. A chief winemaker at Great Western, Ian Mackenzie, wandered through the underground tunnels and began to taste some of the winery's old treasures. He found a bottle of a sparkling red wine and decided to put it back into production. This tour does not operate on January 1, Good Friday and December 25. There is a two-person minimum for this tour to operate. Victoria is an estimated 3.5-hour drive from Melbourne. 72 HOURS MINIMUM ADVANCE BOOKING REQUIRED.
